My sister is a witch…do I care?

My younger sister Jen is a white witch.

When I heard this, my first thought was that I’m really glad that she isn’t a black witch, I don’t think the the eye-of-a-newt no teeth Macbeth witch is a good look for her.

She is a practicing Pagan and I, admittedly, don’t know a lot about the religion except that, at its heart, it has a reverence for everything in nature. She doesn’t use a broomstick as a mode of transport (sadly, in my humble opinion, that would be pretty cool), bite the heads off bats or worship Satan.

Jen loves the natural world and everything in it and she is, fundamentally, a nurturer. She’ll give the same care to a broken baby tree as she gives to the elderly folk she cares for. She hugs trees, talks to plants, stares at that sky and finds magic in unexpected places.

And she loves…generously, uninhibitedly, wildly….
I kind of think any other love based God would be okay with that. And really, what can be so wrong with a religion that has the phrase “First, do no harm” as a cornerstone of its faith?

I have this idea that if you are looking for God, he will find you.

My sister is a smart, capable, thinking adult and she has chosen this form of worship. Paganism is her path, her choice and I will fight for her right—vociferously and loudly—as strongly as I will fight for your right to worship Christ, or Muhammed, or Buddha or anyone other deity your energy resonates with. I’m in no position to judge her, or you, or anyone else. Her path is her path, mine is different. And that’s okay.

So okay.
Her choices do not affect me, my life or my spiritual path. There’s an old Polish saying that sums my thoughts on peoples choice of religion, including my sisters, perfectly:
Not my circus, not my monkeys…
I love my sister, I fully, absolutely and unequivocally support and respect her choices. I only have one piece of advice for her….

Don’t drink and fly, my darling. 😉

Peace. Tolerance. Love

I’ve deliberately not allowed comments on this post because I don’t want my blog to become a platform for anyone to promote his or her religious beliefs. Instead of commenting, I challenge you to donate $5 (or less or more) to your church, a charity, a cause you believe in the name of your God; whoever or whatever that may be. Let’s spread a little love.

Be bold, be fierce, be grateful.

I have no idea who wrote the following two quotes but they touch my heart…every time.

Today may there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise, and love. It is there for each and every one of us.”

So go now and live!

On love, beautifully, beautifully expressed

Now to try an write my own WIP. Intimidated? Hell, yes!
